Working with the non-profits G.O.A.L.S. and The Building Goodness Foundation, I was tasked with the challenge to design a community center for the impoverished town of Destra in Haiti. The community center was to serve as the local town hall, clinic, school, storm shelter, etc...

Destra locals provided the construction crew, while GOALS and BGF teamed up to provide the funding and necessary construction education.

The L-shape building footprint creates a communal space allowing for town meetings and outdoor events. The building has two large classroom/flex spaces along with an office and secure storage room. A semi enclosed porch lies on one end of the building to provide a comfortable exterior gathering place out of the elements. As Destra has no utilities or infrastructure of any kind, large windows were incorporated into the building to maximize natural lighting.
